A 44-year-old Manorville man was driving a 2017 Hyundai northbound on Wading River Road in Manorville when a man driving a 2010 gray Volvo, who had been driving erratically and tried to pass multiple vehicles, attempted to pass his vehicle at the intersection at South Street Thursday, Nov. 28 at about 2:35 p.m., Suffolk County Police said.
The Manorville man believed his vehicle was struck and pulled into a parking lot on the corner of South Street and Wading River Road to inspect his vehicle.
The driver of the Volvo also stopped his vehicle and engaged in a physical altercation with the victim and stabbed him once in the abdomen at 2:37 p.m., according to police.
The victim was transported by Manorville Community Ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The victim’s wife was also in the vehicle but was not injured.
The suspect, now identified as Gregory Spina, of Glen Cove, fled in his vehicle eastbound on South Street, police said.
Spina, 43, has been charged with second-degree assault. He will be held overnight at the Seventh Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday, Nov. 30.
Police are not releasing the name of the victim.
